Lightbulb New Age Scammer...

I thought I'd share a scammer i came across with the other day here the story:

I was in droks wen someone needed some power lvling, I Pm'd him and said ill do it, but i told him the only rule was that i get all of his loot. He says "ok" so we go out of droks towards the troll cave and I finish killing all of the trolls and i tell him to meet me in dis 3, but when I get to droks and meet with him, I open trade to get his loot...he cancels the trade and ignores me!

He didn't even level once and the loot he got was < 100 gold in value, is 75 gold or so worth gaining an enemey now a days?

I thought it was kinda funny though...

I woudn't really call this a "New Age" scam.. it seems more of a variation on the classic Don't pay the runner dodge.

it's also quite easy to put an end to, if you're so inclined, by having the kid simply pick up and drop anything he gets as opposed to hording it all until after the leveling...

lol, power-leveling.

Why not play through the game in a regular fashion (even though it's the 4th time...I sure as heck can cope with it) AND stop being a jerk?

It's called grabbing EXP scrolls go outside of Port Sledge kill everything and repeat. Even my level 5 ranger did it,I mean a service to power level just sad.

This wouldn't be a scam, call it a waste of time.

If you thought it was funny, why are you reporting him? You just wasted 5 minutes thinking this up and typing it out to report someone that felt they didn't want to be power leveled by you anymore.
Maybe you took too long, or you were a dick to him and thats why he left.
Take your sob stories somewhere else, nobody cares about someone getting "scammed" for 75g.

1. A solo player gets all the loot.
2. 2 players get all the loot, but the drops are assigned fairly evenly split.
3. You allowed someone to go with you with no increase in chance for loot. 4. If you only wanted the loot, then you should have just gone solo.

Wow, you're even dumber than the original poster. It's not power-leveling if you dont bring someone along. That was the whole point of this and the post, read up buddy.

Wow, you guys are pricks. He was just telling you what happened, and you go off on him about power levelling. Maybe rather than trying to prove how "1337" you are by being jerks, you should just enjoy the fact that he posted about someone who could give you all a good laugh. Talk about wasting time, you spent 5 minutes to come up with your intellegent remarks about how the OP is stupid. Grow up children.

Haha. Which sounds more pathetic to you?
1. Someone that wanted to get power leveled, then for some reason, either had to leave the game or didn't want the service from that person.
OR
2. Someone that felt the need to report this on a forum, hoping someone else would come to his defense in hopes of gaining some kind of security lost.

Did you ever stop to think maybe he had something better to do? Maybe he had to go to work or school, maybe he's got better plans for the day that sitting on the computer. Just because it happened to you doesn't mean you need to come here and cry about it.

You've been a member for 4 months, you know how this crap is overlooked by everyone.

You did, however give me a laugh. I do like to read about stuff like this, but not in the posting person's defense, but the fact that someone would actually feel the need to write about it because they're so obsessed with a video game that anytime something wrong happens they turn into the Hulk.

I think it is highly unfair laughing at someones misfortunes. He was simply bringing up a scam where people get someone to power lvl them and leave after one run. It does not involve you going, "he left because you were a jerk", or, "i laughed so hard, its truly hilarious". To the OP i feel sorry for you and to all the other nasty individuals rediculing him, grow up and stop being trolls.

I'll explain my point better:

If the OP wanted to power level someone to gain a profit, then his method was faulty. Now read what I said again.

What's more surprising is that you actually care about 75 gold.

To be scammed requires someone to let down their guard, go against better judgement, be naive, take the easy way out, or to just have a brief moment of "what was I thinking". If you come to a public forum and post about yourself getting scammed few will give you sympathy. Maybe on your guild forums, because you have friends who will sympathize with you there.

I know firsthand how devastating it is (and humiliating) to be taken for a scam. I can recount 2 experiences in my time playing MMOG's that I have fallen for one. But all people who fall for a scam are taken because of one of the above listed reasons.

Informing the community of a scam is a benefit if you are truly interested in helping the fellow player to avoid such things. But expecting sympathy is not going to happen. And telling people they are pricks or trolls because they show no sympathy is also just as bad. I know that arenanet tells you to post these on a forum setting, but I hope you all realize this is just a way to redirect your anger and refocus your energies on now hating the community that ridicules you and takes your attention off the scammer in the first place. Arenanet does not respond to these posts.

And because both the sympathizers and the trolls cannot refrain from posting insults, this thread is now closed.
